Section 2. Happiness & Hope Mai lbox of Peace 056 057 Korea Foundation & US Peace Corps KF COVID-19 Survival Box Gratitude Letter Col lection Soon , we may do a separate story of Michael ' s life in Seoul as a PCV in 1970 , how we met and married there ( at Sogang University Chapel in 1970 ), and our 50th Pandemic - Lock - Down - style anniversary celebration we observed on 11 / 7 / 2020 in the garage of our younger daughter ' s house with the door open because of the horrific Corona case spikes in all over in the U . S . The event turned out wonderfully despite the unusual setting as our grown children opened our event to Zoom and dozens of our extended family and friends burst onto our computer screen ! They included family living abroad , our youngest son , Brian , his wife Sujin , and their 4 - year - old living in Pangyo , S . Korea , who ran OneWorld Language Academy until it closed this year because of COVID . There seems to be no way we could reciprocate your kind thoughts for our wellbeing abroad appropriately enough . We wish we could send you a copy of Michael ' s book on the Korean War , ten- tatively titled , " The Korean War Remembered : A Study in Public History ." However , it is under consideration for publication and not yet published . Thanks to the COVID lockdown , though , he was able to take advantage of the free time ( from having no sports to watch on TV , etc .) and was able to com- plete the manuscript . It is being reviewed for publication . By the way , Michael served as the director of the Harry S . Truman Presiden- tial Library from 2001 to 2014 , and since President Truman played a key role in establishing and carrying out policies dealing with the Korean War , and Mi- chael served as a K - 10 Peace Corps Volunteer in 1970 , it seems natural for Michael to choose to write about this most pivotal part of Korean history . “Our story” Michael Devine & Maija Rhee Devine His articles on this topic did get published in the Woodrow Wilson Quarterly this year . As for me , I have been active as a writer , publishing my autobiographical nov- el about growing up in Korea , The Voices of Heaven , and a poetry chapbook , Long Walks on Short Days . Since then , I have focused on writing about former Korean and other coun- tries ' " comfort women " of WWII . My 20 articles on this topic have been pub- lished in The Korea Times . I hope to have a book manuscript completed on this theme this year . I also write poems . My poem , " Comfort Women of WWII ," was published in Pleiades , the literary journal of Central Missouri State University , in summer 2020 issue , and it was a featured poem of the week in September , 2020 . In September , my essay , " The Korean War : Chocolate Candies ," was published in DoveTales , the literary journal of Writing for Peace . The link to my story is : It ' s a story told from the perspective of a 7 - year - old child ( Maija ) and the sto- ry parallels with news clips from media reports about the highlights of the Korean War . Also , 3 of my poems about Corona virus was published in a COVID - 19 anthol- ogy , " When the Virus Came Calling : COVID - 19 Strikes America ," ( Golden Foot- hills Press , CA , September , 2020 ) I attach photos of 2 poems . I would like to mail you a copy of this anthology . I would also like to enclose with the book small handmade bookmarks as gifts personalized with the re- cipients ' names in both English and Korean . Special Reminiscence 2
