Section 2. Happiness & Hope Mai lbox of Peace 040 041 Korea Foundation & US Peace Corps KF COVID-19 Survival Box Gratitude Letter Col lection My name is Karin A ’ Hearn - Sweeney ( my assigned Korean name 안게인). I am a returned Peace Corps Volunteer (평화봉사단), who served in Wolseong Gun Pogunso (월성군 보건소) in Geyongju City (경주시), Geyongsangbukdo (경상북도) from 1974 until 1976 . In 2009 , I returned to visit South Korea to see the progress that your people made over 33 years . My heart overflowed with joy to see the prosperity of my former co - workers and marveled that they still remembered me . <omit> A few weeks ago , some returned Peace Corps volunteers posted on Face- book that they had received a Covid Care Package from the Friends of Ko- rea . I dismissed it because they were very active members in the Friends of Korea association and were deserving of the attention . Then I received my package ! I waited until I could share its opening with friends and we opened each of the gifts inside with great joy . I immediately shared the candy and some of the masks with them . <omit> I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for such a thoughtful and practical gift , but more importantly for the memories it evoked and the new memories that are being made . In gratitude , “We opened each of the gifts inside with great joy” Karin Sweeney , K - 38 Karin Sweeney New York Once again , the Korea Foundation has shown extraordinary generosity by sending former Peace Corps Volunteers the COVID - 19 Survival boxes . I feel an enormous sense of gratitude to you and the Korean people for this unex- pected gift . It was an honor to serve in Seoul as a university teacher from 1969 - 1974 . Although close friends and family know about my love for Korea , your gift allowed me to tell people in the community about your generous spirit . I gave fifty of the masks to our local food bank that serves people in need in Vancouver , Washington and fifty to my church that sponsors a program called Family Promise to help homeless families by providing temporary shel- ter . Your gift will benefit people through these two organizations . We will all remember 2020 because it has been such a difficult year for so many of us , but I will remember it as a year when the Korea Foundation , in an amazing act of generosity , sent us this wonderful survival box . With gratitude , “Your gift will benefit people through these two organizations” Gay Garland , K - 7 Gay Garland Reed, Ph.D.
