Section 1. Memor ies of Korea Mai lbox of Peace 018 019 Korea Foundation & US Peace Corps KF COVID-19 Survival Box Gratitude Letter Col lection As a former Peace Corps volunteer , I want to thank you for the very kind gift the Korea Foundation sent me as a ‘ Covid - 19 Survival Box ’. The contents were quite unexpected and brought a tear of appreciation to my eyes for the kind gesture , but also to have been remembered after all these years . I fondly remember my time in Korea over 45 years ago . I lived in Suwon and worked at 아주공과대학, which I think no longer exists or has changed names . I still clearly remember the sites and sounds and people ' s faces as I had the good fortune to be able to travel throughout the country . While I have lost contact with the people I knew there , it is one of the happiest memories that I have . I think I learnt much more from Koreans that I met than I was ever able to teach and it has made my life richer . I wish my Korean was still good enough to be able to write this message of thanks in Korean . However , The Korea Foundation ' s thoughtful gift has inspired me to reopen my Korean language books and to brush up on my Korean again . Please accept my warm Regards , "I fondly remember my time in Korea over 45 years ago" Christopher Farrand , K - 30 Christopher Farrand My name is Mark Campana , and I am writing to thank you for the kind gift you sent to us this Fall . ( omit ) I was a Peace Corps volunteer in the ROK from 1975 - 1977 . I taught English for one year at I - cheon Middle School ( Kyonggi - do ) and helped organize En- glish teacher workshops in Suwon . I will never forget those times : they shaped my character as a young adult , and launched a career of language study . For the past 20 + years I have been living and working in Japan . It is a delicate matter to talk about my Korean experience here : relations between the two countries are still unsettled . As an American I can see both sides , and try hard to promote better under- standing . In my view , Korea and Japan have much common , and one day may share a path to a better future . Again , I thank you for your kindness . My Canadian wife and I were quite sur- prised when the package came ; three cheers to the Korea Foundation ! We definitely look forward to visiting the ROK in the years ahead . Best regards , “I will never forget those times” Mark Campana , K - 35 Mark Campana (Kobe, Japan) Marie Rivet-Campana (Honolulu, Hawaii)
