Section 1. Memor ies of Korea Mai lbox of Peace 014 015 Korea Foundation & US Peace Corps KF COVID-19 Survival Box Gratitude Letter Col lection I served in the Peace Corps K - 23 in KwangJu from 1972 - 1974 teaching at middle school and College . The time in Korea changed my life . Fresh out of college , I had no idea what I wanted to do - only that I wanted to see distant lands . Living and working in Korea gave me the opportunity to learn who I was . I married a Korean man ( was married over 35 years - he died of cancer sev- eral years ago ), had two wonderful children , still am involved in volunteer activities , have taken my children and grandchildren back to Korea , always have kimchi in my home and carry my Korean life in my heart . Your package was another reminder of how special Korea is to me and my family - the generosity , spirit of giving and timeliness make Korea stand out among nations around the world . Thank you so very much - Korea ’ s influence spreads across the globe and has touched my life more than any other experience . Best wishes for a healthy , peaceful life . Sincerely , Thank you so much for the very thoughtful and generous gifts from the Korea Foundation to help us during this extremely difficult time of COVID . We received our COVID Relief boxes a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed opening up them up to find so many surprises , from the beautiful Korean fan and delicious ginseng candy to the boxed set of chakara and sukara ! And , of course , all of the protective masks , as well ! My husband and I were both Peace Corps volunteers in South Korea from 1976 – 1978 . I was a Middle School English teacher in Samsong - ri , Kyonggi - do , and my husband was assigned to a technical school in Yangkok , Kyonggi - do . We both have many wonderful memories of our experiences in Korea . We have been able to travel back to Korea over the past few years since retire- ment a number of times . One of our favorite places to visit is Jeju - do . On our last visit , three years ago , we spent a week in Seogwipo while exploring the rest of the island . We are looking forward to being able to visit again , soon . Thank you , again , for reaching out to RPCV ’ s in such a caring and generous way - an exemplification of the continued bonds of friendship ! “The time in Korea changed my life” Michele Piastro Pak , K - 23 “We are looking forward to being able to visit again, soon” Ellen M .
