The big box with the sender as ‘ KF ( Korea Foundation ) had the text ‘ KF COVID - 19 Survival Box ’ written on it . Mr . Amos was shocked after opening the box . The box was full of goods to sur- vive COVID - 19 such as KF - 94 masks , antibacterial gloves , bags , etc . There were also souvenirs such as silver spoons , red ginseng candy , instant coffee , etc . that were reminiscent of Korea . In the email interview with < OhmyNews > on the 2nd , Mr . Amos said “ I was ecstatic . It was like Christmas in October ”. He continued that “ I was so surprised and was deeply grateful towards the Korea Foundation , its representatives , and Korea as The Korea Foundation sent the KF COVID-19 Survival Box with masks, etc. to the US Peace Corps members that were active in Korea in the past. Peace Corps is a teenage community service organization created by the US government in 1961 , which was mainly dis- patched to developing countries to serve in education , medical , and agricultural / fishery technology . The Peace Corps served in Korea between 1966 and 1981 . Mr . Amos stayed in Mokpo and Anyang while serving in the medical service field . Also , he was deeply inspired by the 5 . 18 Gwangju Uprising which led to his novel < The Seed of Joy > published in 1999 . This is the first foreign novel that dealt with The May 18 Democratic Uprising . The KF revealed on October 22nd that it “ is delivering survival boxes to the US Peace Corps members to help with COVID - 19 response .” The Korea Foundation was created based on the Korea Foundation Act in 1991 , and is a Ministry of For- eign Affairs affiliated organization that manages the various exchange projects between Korea and other countries . Mr . Amos said that “ Korea ’ s friendship and generosity filled my heart ”, and em- phasized that “ All the Peace Corps volunteers would think that we received a lot more than our service in the past ”. “ Most states , including my current state of residence , Idaho , reached the high- est infected count . For example , there were 1 , 064 confirmed cases in Idaho on Friday ( October 30th ) alone . The number was half of this last summer . Idaho still has relatively lower counts because it is somewhat isolated . I am very concerned with the sudden rise in confirmed cases and the deaths resulting from this . We are returning to the times when the pandemic was very bad . Politics is largely re- sponsible for this . This is because of the terrible leadership of the current lead- er .” Mr .
